"When I graduated, I was really ready to start working for myself, and in Kvinesdal I had a studio in an old barn ready for me. At the same time, we had a little girl on the way, and we thought it would be a nice and safe place to grow up as a child."

Training for the barn workshop

When I graduated, I was really ready to start working for myself, and in Kvinesdal I had a studio in an old barn ready for me. At the same time, we had a little girl on the way, and we thought it would be a nice and safe place to grow up as a child.

Rural life and friendly meetings

"There's a completely different calmness about living in the countryside. And I'm also very sociable and think it's nice that, in theory, you can talk to every other person you pass in Kvinesdal.

The joy of creation and pop-ups

We missed a community for creative souls with a love of creating, so we got together to create a place for that. We wanted to bring doughnuts to the village, so we created a pop-up for that. An art workshop for kids? We can do it!

Volunteer spirit and local support

"I'm very fond of Kvinesdal and its women; there's something nice about people here who don't take themselves so seriously and often put others before themselves. There's a lot of volunteer spirit and good help for each other here.

Labour and local partnerships

I brought my job here with me. As a new business, it took time to get the wheels turning, so I took on odd jobs here and there until I was up and running myself. If you're nice and curious (and perhaps a little cheeky), you can easily find a job in Kvinesdal - or create your own workplace.

"I try to use local suppliers for the production of posters and the like. I also do a lot of physical work with wood, for example, so it's good to use local suppliers like Trestokken. They deliver quickly, affordably and are very helpful.

Quality of life, nature and community

People consider each other and help out, you know who most people are and it's a short distance to know someone who knows someone who can help with what you need.

I'm not very good at using nature myself, but we do have fantastic hiking areas and bathing spots; in fact, we have everything from sea to shining sea here.

Long-term anchoring

I travel quite often for work, and there aren't many days before I want to go home again.
