History and culture
Feda - a cultural treasure
Beautiful Feda is idyllically located by the Feda fjord. Along the fjord you'll find old trading centres, farms and sea houses that tell the story of coastal culture, shipping and small communities. A quiet and atmospheric area - perfect for both photography and reflection. In summer, we recommend a visit to Bøkkerbua and the art exhibition at Galleri Waldmar's house.
Knaben Gruver - a small piece of world history
The mines at Knaben mined molybdenum - important for making strong steel, especially weapon steel. During World War II, the Germans built large fortifications, and in 1943 the mines were bombed twice by Allied aircraft - once on the same day as the Heavy Water Operation at Vemork. Knaben II was Western Europe's largest molybdenum sulphide mine before it was closed in 1973. Today, you can experience the Knaben Mining Museum, the lift tower, the laundry and the entire 21 floors under the mountain - a mining town with both history and soul.
Kvinesdal church - a place of worship for a thousand years
Kvinesdal church is an octagonal wooden church from 1837, built on an old church site with roots dating back to the Middle Ages and perhaps the Viking Age. Inside you'll find a crucifix from the 15th century, an altar chalice from 1592 and an altarpiece painted by Marcelius Førland. The church is a living memory of faith and tradition in the village over the centuries.
Kvinesdal Historielag - living local history
Kvinesdal Historielag was founded on 30 March 1984 and has since grown to more than 1,500 members, both locally and internationally. The society is known for its annual journals, which since 1986 have documented local history through articles about people, places and events in Kvinesdal, Feda and Fjotland. In addition, the society organises trips to historical sites, both locally and internationally, and is involved in the preservation of cultural heritage.
