It's not without reason that we're called the family city. When the children are happy, the adults are happy too. The focus here is on the children; a good and safe upbringing. And we invest in well-being.
The town is young and modern, even though Lyngdal was a centre of power long ago. The English salmon lords flocked here to try their luck at fishing. And people are still flocking to the municipality!
Population growth is high. Lyngdal is based on visitors and trade and is one of Southern Norway's most important trade centres. 2,500 holiday homes, 1,000 caravans and 800 overnight beds make us a significant tourism municipality. The door is open to new residents, new ideas and new opportunities. Many people emphasise the good atmosphere and all the nice people. And Lyngdal must be one of the country's few towns without parking fees and parking attendants.
In this small town, people care about each other and we're known for our spirit of volunteering and good community spirit. Lyngdal has one of the country's finest stadiums. Even the impressive sports centre was built on a voluntary basis. We've also produced many talented football players.
The municipality's slogan: "We will, we dare" says a lot about the people, politicians and businesses in the city. Here we cheer each other on. It is allowed to succeed and together we work for a positive development. Lyngdal offers bustling small town life with a vibrant town centre. Cosy shops, pleasant eateries and great meeting places. Here you'll find sherpasti and via ferrata right in the centre of town, as well as a great park with large play areas, an ice rink and a popular water park. If you want to do even more shopping, you can stop by the attractive shopping park or the Alti Centre just outside the city centre.
Activity programmes are available in all categories. And throughout the year, we organise enjoyable events for both residents and visitors. In July, we have a city festival in the streets and in the evenings, residents aged 18-80 gather.
In Lyngdal, everyone can find their paradise; the municipality is extensive and you can choose whether you want to live by the sea, by the fjord, in the middle of the city or in the many cosy little villages.
The people who live here love the outdoors and sports. Nature experiences are plentiful throughout the year. The archipelago idyll, long sandy beaches, fjords, rivers, forests and mountains are all within easy reach. And best of all, the distances between all these delights are small.
You don't have to choose between holiday and everyday life. You get both.
We look forward to seeing you!
