Who are we?

Eramet Norway AS operates a smelter in Kvinesdal that produces manganese alloys. We receive raw materials from abroad by boat that are unloaded at the quay, and the raw materials are then sent to the furnaces where they are melted into liquid metal. Once they have cooled down, they are crushed and shipped by boat to steelworks in Europe and the USA. Our employees are responsible for the continuous operation of our three melting furnaces and all related logistics and support functions.

Expertise and technology

We are an important mainland industry and cornerstone company. Eramet is an early adopter of measures to reduce CO2 emissions and has launched its own product with the lowest emissions in the world. We are working on carbon capture and other exciting projects that will make us the first to produce emission-free manganese alloys.

Work environment and culture

"People enjoy working at the plant and want to spend much of their working lives here. We have very low staff turnover and many people have worked here for many years. We take that as a sign that they thrive.

Organisation and well-being

The company conducts regular employee surveys to measure the working environment, and action plans are drawn up to work on the areas that employees feel we need to improve. Well-being initiatives and social gatherings are organised for employees, with a focus on creating a good working environment.

Diversity and inclusion

The company is characterised by having been male-dominated for many years, and has 14 % women. The proportion of women is increasing, and a good proportion of the managers at the plant are women, including the plant manager, the production manager responsible for the furnaces and the HSE manager.

Future-oriented operation

Eramet is investing heavily in new projects for the future, and we have invested in new solutions for the industry, such as the use of biocarbon in the furnaces. We have a lot of exciting plans for the next 5-10 years that make us believe that the plant will be here for at least another 50 years.

Sustainability

The smelting industry has historically had high emissions. Kvinesdal has invested heavily over many years in environmental cleaning systems to minimise our emissions to air and water. We also built a heat recovery plant 40 years ago that generates around 10-15 % of our electricity consumption. We are investing heavily in biocarbon to reduce our CO2 emissions, and we are working on plans for carbon capture.

Local involvement

Eramet has been a major contributor to the local community since its inception. Financially, the company has supported many teams and organisations for many years. Among other things, we are the main sponsor of both the sports team in Kvinesdal and the golf course. The company has also donated our by-product, slag, to many people who have used it as a foundation under their houses. The golf course is also built on slag, which we now call Silica GreenStone.

Development opportunities

At Eramet, the opportunities are many! You can start as an operator and climb to the top if you wish. There are good opportunities for career programmes, exchanges to other Eramet sites (in the US, France, Africa, etc.) and Eramet is willing to invest in the training of employees who want to improve their formal skills.

Integration and leisure

The company has a corporate sports team that provides support to employees for participation in sports activities. Some departments organise social gatherings on their own, or go on trips together. Our employees are active in teams and associations throughout the Lister region, and there are good opportunities to be included and invited to activities if you are new!
