FARMAR is a maritime group with around 100 employees and a clear ambition: to be the most flexible and complete maritime player in the market. Headquartered in Farsund, the company offers everything from shipping operations and crew to logistics and port operations - and everything is delivered through internal resources. This results in short decision-making paths, rapid customisation and a high degree of control.

- We cover the whole spectrum. When our customers choose FARMAR, they get everything in one place," says the general manager: "If there's dew in the grass, that's maritime enough for us."

Quality, safety and diversity

FARMAR is both ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified, and places great emphasis on safety and quality - both for employees and the environment. The working environment committee meets monthly, and we work systematically on well-being and improvement.

The company is also aware of its responsibility in a male-dominated industry and has several female apprentices on the way in, both on tyres and machinery. Diversity, inclusion and gender equality are anchored in the quality system and in daily operations.

- We used to look for "potatoes" - all-rounders. Now we look for people with clear competences who are able to play well with each other. It gives strength to the team.

Future-oriented operations and sustainability in practice

Innovation is a natural part of FARMAR's everyday life. They were among the first in Norway to digitise ship logs and have invested in their own power supply based on solar cells. In new construction projects, as much as possible is reused - in one of the latest quay facilities, the goal is 90 % reuse of materials.

- We believe in taking the lead. We try new solutions early - even before they're ready. That's how we contribute to development.

At the same time, FARMAR makes significant contributions back to the local community. They are the main sponsor of organisations such as FLIK and the cycling club, and support culture and volunteering - not least the Vanvittig MORO festival, which they support with around NOK 500,000 annually.

Recruitment with a view

FARMAR is closely linked to the educational programmes in the region. Every year, they visit both secondary and upper secondary schools to provide information about maritime education. Recruitment takes place via NAV, the company's own website and social media - but first and foremost through relationships and commitment.

Employees are offered development at all levels, and a separate maritime academy is being established. The ambition is to be able to offer training for ship masters on smaller vessels - an important element in the work of building a professional environment and ensuring future recruitment.

- We have employees who started as apprentices and are now in management roles. With us, it's possible to grow - both professionally and personally.
