Konsmoparken

Along the Audna river lies the lovely little village of Konsmo. In the centre, by the riverside, you will find a sandy beach where families gather to swim and play. And that is not all: this is also home to the only 18-hole disc golf course – the only one between Kristiansand and Stavanger. All of this belongs to Konsmoparken, which also has a playground, a volleyball court, a skate park and a BMX track. In other words, there are unusually many ways to have fun together in little Konsmo!

Good public and private services in a small place

And there is more. The villagers have their own primary school with its own multi-use sports hall (!) and a library. Residents also have their own health centre, open Monday to Friday. When the children of Konsmo move on to lower and upper secondary school, they go to Byremo.

Konsmo also has a local shop, with petrol pumps. That comes in handy, because a lot of people in Konsmo love motorsport. So many, in fact, that they have their own motorsport track!

The track is 872 metres long, and members come from near and far to drive autocross, rallycross, cross-kart and rally. NMK Konsmo holds three or four races a year and trains every week in the summer half of the year. The site has good facilities, with toilets, showers, kiosks and a clubhouse – so nobody goes without.

Are you the hunting type? Then you will be pleased to hear that Konsmo has its own shooting range! Konsmo skytterlag makes sure its members can fine-tune their technique before the big-game season starts, and the clubhouse is also partly rented out to villagers who want to hold an event or throw a party.

Rural, but easy to get to and from

Konsmo is a good half-hour drive from the municipal centre, Lyngdal town, with everything your heart could desire in shops and culture. The small towns of Flekkefjord and Farsund are about an hour away.

Prefer the train? Then you can hop on in Konsmo, as Audnedal station has trains towards Kristiansand, Stavanger, Arendal and Oslo.

From forest to cornerstone company – and much more

In many ways, Konsmo is the village that built itself on the forest. The cornerstone company Konsmohus builds for the future and has made many a dream home come true. Konsmo fabrikker started back in 1978 and makes houses and cabins, as well as modules for schools, kindergartens, office buildings and apartment blocks, among others. With production in its own factory buildings and quality at every stage as a stated goal, the company has delivered building projects both in Norway and abroad. Konsmohus combines traditional craftsmanship with modern building systems and efficient modular production. The company is also an approved apprenticeship company, helping to train the skilled workers who will carry the Norwegian building industry forward in the years to come.

And there are more companies in Konsmo creating jobs from wood. One example is the woodworking company Løkkan tre, which supplies solid wood flooring, mouldings, panelling and other wood products to customers all over the country.

Nord Audnedal Bruk AS is a sawmill that turns raw logs into quality products of many kinds. Here the long craft traditions of the area really come into their own, and customers get tailor-made cladding, heartwood and other products.

Konsmo also has the local building and carpentry firm H K S Bygg AS, which takes on jobs from the Lister region to Kristiansand. But its base is in Konsmo. Here too, apprentices get the chance to become skilled tradespeople.

In other words, Konsmo may be the perfect place for you if you love forests, timber and crafts with long traditions.

The child wanderers

Imagine being seven years old and having to set out on a long journey on foot across Agder to find work. That was the reality for many children in the 1800s and the early 1900s.

In the old post office in Konsmo lies Barnevandrersenteret, the Child Wanderers’ Centre, where this powerful part of local history comes to life. The children walked for miles from home to work on farms and help their families make ends meet. Today you can follow their tracks along the old walking routes, and a sculpture in Konsmo commemorates the children who had to set out on the long road. It is a powerful story that deserves to be remembered. Today you can walk in the footsteps of the child wanderers, with or without a guide. Read more at Barnevandrersenteret på Konsmo.

The forest as an adventurous attraction

Who says a night away has to be just a bed for the night? Not the team at Norwegian Wild Cabins in Konsmo; here you can fall asleep among the treetops, float in a tent above the ground or check into your very own fairy-tale castle.

In 2018 the first treehouse was built on a small island in a forest pond. It quickly became a real attraction. Today families, friends and adventurous souls alike can find their very own way to get close to the nature of Sørlandet.

Who would have thought that a small village like Konsmo could hold motorsport, disc golf, the history of the child wanderers, house production and adventurous nights in the treetops? Here, everyday life and new experiences are never far apart. And perhaps there are more surprises than you expected? Konsmo may be small on the map, but it has a lot to offer!
