Rural, but easy to get to town

Because Sira has a railway, it is easy to take the train to Kristiansand, Stavanger, Oslo and Arendal.

Sira station opened as far back as 1943 and is unstaffed (remember to buy tickets online or at the bus station in Flekkefjord). When you step out onto the platform you are met by mountain peaks, Sirdalsvannet lake and fine farms. The view from Høgåsen down to Sira says more than a thousand words.

Stunning Sira

The glittering Sirdalsvannet lake is surrounded by magnificent nature. At Sira beach, residents of all ages meet. Above the white sandy beach there are green areas with benches to sit on. The village community has nature as its nearest neighbour, in many forms. Mountains, rivers, a lake full of lively trout, hiking trails, bathing spots and forests with berries and mushrooms just waiting to be picked.

Right by the beach stands Bakke bridge, the oldest suspension bridge for road traffic in all of Norway. It opened in 1844 and crosses the river Siraelva. It is a splendid sight, with fine towers of natural stone, chains of wrought iron and King Oscar I’s monogram above the western gateway. The perfect Insta bridge!

What you need

Families with children can live in the countryside in Sira and still have most things close at hand. The kindergarten is centrally located and has four groups for the little ones. The primary school has around 60–70 pupils and its own swimming pool. Every year group gets swimming lessons; that is more than many schools can offer.

The local Coop Prix shop has what you need for everyday life, and is a natural meeting point in the village. You will also find a hairdresser in Sira.

In their free time, the children can go to football practice with Bakke Idrettsforening. Or how about learning about nature in Gåsungen 4H? Anyone with a bit of an actor in them can try out Liktua Revygruppe, the local revue group, and adults with a love of boating are well served by Sira Småbåtforening, the small-boat association. In other words: a small place, a wide range of things to do. And if you need a bit of town buzz, Flekkefjord town is less than half an hour away by car.

Sirafestivalen

For many, the highlight of the year in Sira is Sirafestivalen. It is an annual dance festival held every spring or early summer at Lendemoen in Sira. It is organised by Bakke idrettsforening, the local sports club, and the volunteer spirit among the young people and their parents is formidable. There is no lack of ambition when the people of Sira throw a party!

In other words, Sira could be the village of your heart if you like to spice up a natural, calm everyday life with a proper village party!
