The entire maritime value chain in Farsund
FARMAR is a maritime group with around 100 employees and a clear ambition: to be the most flexible and complete player in the market. From their head office in Farsund, they deliver everything from shipping operations and crewing to logistics and harbor operations — all through their own people and equipment.

Who we are
A maritime group covering the full spectrum — from towing to harbor operations.
FARMAR is a maritime transport and logistics company based in Farsund. They operate towing and harbor tugging, barge transport, salvage, management of laid-up vessels, and engineering services related to mooring and seabed mapping. Everything is delivered through in-house resources, which allows for short decision paths and quick adaptations.
At their main base at Strandgaten 10, they have their own workshop where they carry out all kinds of mechanical work. They also offer bollard pull testing for vessels that need their towing capacity tested. The tugboats are stationed in Farsund, Arendal and Thyborøn in Denmark, and the company operates several specialized vessels and mobile cranes.
FARMAR is also an active owner in two shipyards and the company Amon, which manufactures foundations for both bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind turbines. When customers choose FARMAR, they get everything in one place — and a partner with a clear philosophy.

What we do

“If there's dew on the grass, that's maritime enough for us.”
Quality, safety and diversity
FARMAR is certified to both ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and places great emphasis on safety and quality — both for employees and the environment. The working environment committee meets monthly, and there is systematic work on wellbeing and improvement.
The company is also conscious of its responsibility in a male-dominated industry and has several female apprentices on the way in, both on deck and in the engine room. Diversity, inclusion and equality are embedded in the quality system and in day-to-day operations.
They used to look for 'potatoes' — all-rounders. Now they look for people with clear expertise who know how to bring out the best in each other. That's what gives the team its strength.

Digitalization, solar power and support for the local community
Innovation is a natural part of everyday life at FARMAR. They were among the first in Norway to digitize ship logs, and have invested in their own solar-powered electricity supply. In new construction projects, materials are reused as much as possible — at one of their newest quay facilities, the goal is 90 percent material reuse.
At the same time, FARMAR gives significant support back to the local community. They are a main sponsor of, among others, FLIK and the cycling club, and support culture and volunteer work — not least the festival Vanvittig MORO, which they support with around NOK 500,000 annually.
They believe in leading the way. They try out new solutions early — even before they're fully mature. That's how they contribute to progress.
Recruitment with a view
FARMAR is closely connected to the educational pathways in the region. Every year they visit both lower and upper secondary schools to talk about maritime education and what working in the industry can involve. Recruitment happens through NAV, their own website and social media — but above all through relationships and engagement in the local community.
Employees are offered development opportunities at every level, and a dedicated maritime academy is in the works. The ambition is to be able to offer training for ship masters on smaller vessels — an important piece in the effort to build professional expertise and secure recruitment for the future.
"We have employees who started as apprentices and are now in leadership roles. With us, it's entirely possible to grow — both professionally and personally," says the CEO.
“We used to look for 'potatoes' – all-rounders. Now we look for people with clear expertise who know how to bring out the best in each other. That's what gives the team its strength.”
